If there’s one thing that I love, it’s a great pair of shoes!

So visiting the Seong-su handmade shoe street was a special experience for me. We took a moment to visit a small class where students were learning how to make shoes. Students in the class can learn how to make shoes for free, as long as they pay for their own materials that will be used to make them. There are only a few students in the class because it is difficult to get into the school.

The man in far right corner teaches the students, and he is truly an expert. He can make 1 pair of shoes in 1 hour, averaging about 15 shoes per day. He's been making shoes for 30 years!

I believe that these students will be the best in the business since the school is specialized in this particular skill! Although handmade shoes are not as popular as it once was in Seoondong-gu, there’s no denying the quality of the workmanship it takes to make them. Until then, I never really thought about the small details that go into creating and designing a shoe. Just like Understand Avenue, this are of Seongdong-gu gives citizens an opportunity to be creative!
