Ray Perkins is re-defining what a good drink and a good time looks like on her show Talkin’ Tipsy.

 The roles switched pretty quickly when I sat down with Ray for a quick bite at The Hive Buckhead. I had fish tacos, which were amazing by the way, and Ray faced a pitcher of Mimosas on her own.

Of course, that wasn’t my intent, but I loved how that ended up working out as I dived straight into our interview. “It’s deeper than just getting drunk. The goal is never to get people drunk,” she stated as she explained the format of her show.

 Talkin’ Tipsy has become a creative way for Ray to combine her love for bartending, good drinks, and getting to know a wide variety of people in a comfortable and fun interview setting.

“The plan in the near future is to start doing live shows. When people come to Atlanta I want them to say I want to be on Talkin’ Tipsy,” she said as we discussed her long-term goals.

Fellowship, a bar community feel, and an inviting social environment are some of the qualities Ray would like to bring to her live show. She has spent about 5 years growing her skills and knowledge of the bartending industry which has become foundational to her show.

In addition, she is studying the qualities that contribute to the production of talk shows which shows her commitment to the growth of Talkin’ Tipsy.

“I want to expand my brand a little bit more, [and] be more consistent in releasing [web] shows leading up to the live show,” she said.

Ray spoke honestly about the challenges she has had over the past 2 years since starting Talkin’ Tipsy, but she continues to remain positive despite that. “We are our biggest critics. We are literally the only people that can stop us,” she said.

Moving at her own pace and being patient with herself as an entrepreneur has been her greatest asset, as well as trusting the natural development of her brand. Listening to her story, I understood that she found her brand voice with authenticity constantly leading the way.

 “My brand is 100% of who I am. It’s so authentic sometimes I literally forget I’m recording a show,” she said jokingly.

After discussing the growing Atlanta beer culture, the importance of natural agave in margaritas, and how delicious Rosé Belgian beer is I walked away knowing that Talkin’ Tipsy is certainly bigger than getting tipsy.
